Family of the artist

For my Theory of Light class we were required to choose an image by any photographer and recreate it. The final print had to be in black and white. I researched a few traditional photographers of the twentieth century and chose a picture by Philippe Halsman. His subjects were the artist Jean Cocteau, actress Ricki Soma, and dancer Leo Coleman. Coming from a family of artists, I saw this work of Halsman's and felt a strong connection to it.

My talented friend Andrew helped me set up (since the technical/equipment side of photography is my less strong hand). The outcome was not quite what I was imagining - I was hoping for a male with more muscle mass, and also we ended up with a frame that was much too large. But overall I'm very pleased! I even like it more that I used my family. My connection to this image is more strong.
